A BIG Mistake Made Loading a Tractor!

Many of you may have done this or know someone who has but if not please read and don't make my mistakes. I was buying a John Deere 60 and I took my trailer over to the owner's house for loading it up. All did not go well. Since the JD60 wheel spacing was wide enough to scrape the inside of the trailer wheels, I suggested we back the tractor on and allow the tires to rub as it passes the last wheel backing on the trailer. My first mistake was to park on a hill with my Silverado and trailer facing downhill. I thought this would reduce the angle of the ramps. I asked the previous owner to drive the tractor and I would direct his movements. As the rear wheels of the tractor got on the trailer, the ramps rotated and the ramp stands came out, the front of the trailer AND REAR OF MY TRUCK came up off the ground. Now there were no brakes and my truck, trailer, tractor, and driver were rolling down hill. The driver could not do anything but ride it out. I could do nothing but watch as my truck smashed into the driveway fence on the back driver’s side at the bottom of the hill. We were a little rattled after that so we decided to load on level ground. We unhooked the trailer, got my truck away from the fence, and hooked back up. Made the attempt one more time and the trailer came up off the hitch and rammed into the tailgate of my truck. In my mental condition I did not latch down the hitch. This damage was worse than the other. Needless to say we stopped trying to load the tractor that day. The next day a friend with a bigger truck and a tilt-back trailer helped without incedent. We were lucky, it could have been worse.
