Steering Problem

I have a yanmar YM 260 4wd. It has manual steering and I have a loader on it. Yesterday, I heard what sounded like a snap sound and lost a good deal of my ability to steer. I can turn the wheels to the right but when I turn them to the left, the steering column seems to come up/screw out and the wheels will not turn. Can someone trouble shoot this?
