I have a Farmall 300 with two problems. I have just finished installing a rebuilt short block and have run the engine for a total of 2 hours in 15 to 20 min. intervals. After shutting down from the last short run, I noticed smoke coming from the govenor throtle control where the vent cap is located. The throtle contol was very hot and upon disassembly (after cooling down with a wet rag)I noticed that the end of the aluminum throtle control housing had melted. Apparently I had a fire in this area but don't know why. Would an engine that is too far advanced be the cause? Has anyone experienced this phenomena and what can be done to prevent another occurrence? Does anyone know which direction to turn the distributor to retard. The engine turns over very hard with a new battery, so I think it is advanced too much. Second problem is an transmission oil leak from under the torque amplifier. Are there oil seals in the TA, and does the tractor have to be split to replace? Does a rebuilt TA come with the oil seal installed? Any help or suggestions, greatly appreciated.

On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
