If you've given permission, there's nothing "adverse" about it. Where you lose the property right is when they've done something pretty flagrant without your permission AND that use has gone on for quite some time. For example, know of some cemetery property that a church owns that is still farmed by a neighboring farmer. If the church gives permission to do so (in writing would be a good idea), there's not much chance that the farmer could claim the land under adverse possession. If the church just ignores the situation and allows it to continue long enough, the farmer could end up owning the land. YMMV, IANAL
