Thanks for all the advice about the Calcium Chloride vs. wheel weights vs. alternate methods to fill tires, BUT as you can tell I'm a beginner so I have a couple of follow-up questions: --Harold H said that water will work as a tire filler if I don't use the tractor in winter...I don't, so I might try that. Do you have to empty them in the fall or just raise up off the ground (which I do now) in the garage. When they freeze does the tire/tube take the expansion from the ice okay? (These are older tires with some surface cracking. I would not be driving it when frozen. --Dallas mentioned that I must launch a heavy boat to need the weight. Not really-the boat/trailer is about 1100 lbs. Do I need this weight in the tires at all? The tractor had filled tires when I bought it last year, so I assumed I had to stay with them. How do you figure if you need them filled or not? The beach on Lake Huron has very soft, deep and dry sand. I didn't have any problem last summer with the filled tires. By the way guys, this 1948 Massey Harris Model 20 is the coolest tractor anyone could ever want! Thanks for the help from you pros.
