Water pump?

If its not one thing its another, I have never had this to happen before. As soon as the tractor gets hot it starts throwing water out the overflow tube. I stop and loosened the cap and steam goes everywhere. I haft to add 1 1/2 gallons of water. this took about 20 minutes. Before today I could run my tractor all day on only add a 1/2 cup of water at the next running. I am thinking water pump. So I do i tell if it is the water pump or the thermostat? I just put a new Alternator on and tighten the belt. The pulleys never did line up perfect. But I never had this problem before. What do you think?
