There is probably a power beyond plug that is changed when a machine has no aux hydraulics. This would allow the power beyond flow and return oil to comingle and exit the loader valve via the return port. Yes, oil in an open center system will follow the path of least resistance given parallel paths. The key is to not provide parallel paths. When you stroke a valve spool on the loader control, oil that was flowing through the valve and out the power beyond port is diverted to one of the work ports on that valve section. The only oil flowing out of the return port of a power beyond valve is the oil RETURNING from the cylinders. 'Unused' oil that flows through the valve while it is in neutral will exit via the power beyond portand be available for use by the aux valve, if it is in place.
