air compressor

I want to buy an air compressor and use it to paint my tractor. For the size compressor I will be able to afford, some have 110 volt motors and others have 220 volt. I am wondering which one to get. Years ago my uncle had a 220 volt compressor and when I would borrow it I usually complained about having to find a 220 outlet in order to use it. My uncle said he purposely bought a 220 volt compressor because there was some advantage, although I don't remember what it was. What is the benefit to buying a 220 volt compressor instead of a 110 volt one?
