Andy, my "D" experience is limited to driving one, but I'll take a stab at your question. If that "D" starter is mounted like most other Waterloo two-cylinders, in a 3 bolt flange type of affair, they can fit really tight. I would spray it with penetrating oil where the starter is mounted to the flange, and then use a rubber hammer, your hand or something similar to tap on the other end of the starter to get it moving in the flange. It should come loose for you. I would recommend a coating of grease or anti-sieze on the flange when you reinstall it, to prevent the problem in the future. Good luck with the "D".
