how would you ship a tractor across the country?

it seems like everything i would like to have is always a great distance away and the cost of having it hauled would be as much if not more than the price of what you want. which brings me to the question of :how can you get somthing moved for cheep? i have been thinking that perhaps you could do it by freight train, but have not found anyplace that does this. any thoughts?
