Not really a concrete man but I have been project manager for several new construction commercial warehouses. When uprights are poured in place or mounted to the surface they concrete fellas ALWAYS cut a diamond into the surface. This is generally about 3-4" wider than the pole itself. This acts a an expansion joint and if floor flexs it's effect is minimal on the uprights. Also, if the uprights move only a small area to repour vs. entire slab section. All slabs I have seen poured always have a plastic vapor barrier to retard moisture. FWIW
