One more pole barn concrete question..

I have a pole barn with round metal poles (3 1/2 in dia.). I in the process of getting it ready to have a slab poured. I am worried the slab will crack around the poles as the slab expands and contracts. Should I leave room around the poles for expansion? Maybe build a wood box around the poles and then fill it with tar later? Thanks - Dave
