Brad, I am 17 and was told the same story by my school counsiler told me the same thing......I said o-k, since I can't take ag, I will take automotive so I can repair antique machinery and use it in our operation........I farm with a 30 year old guy and farm 40 acres, nothing large, but enough to keep me busy. We have IH tractors(560, 400, M-TA, SM, and a super A) and older IH, NH and JD equipment.....along with our 715 IH combine..... We grow hay, corn, soybeans, and rye. We also have 7 steers to keep me busy in the "off" season of winter.

If I had it my way, I would farm the rest of my life.....it is hard work and everything comes tough, but the enjoyment you get from seeing your crops grow is unmatched in anything else! But, we have no available ground to farm and the available stuff is way to expensive.......I was looking at milking cows, but we would have to rent a better suited barn and that would be difficult. But, I am sure all is well, ends well. Keep your head held high, a break will come your way!
