Teen Farmers ----- the new GENERATION

Hello sir's and mam's. My name is Brad Wies, I am a 16 year old male from the state of Illinois. My grandfather is a farmer, he still farms his great grandparents farm. I would like to take the farm over and be the 5th generation to run it. The only problem is no agricultural classes are available in high school. I am like many young americans who want to find what their place in life will be, mine is to farm. Farming is a job you know you want from the beginning, it is in you when you are born, you have a passion for what you do. You respect the land, the profession, natural resources and have trusted neighbors. Many kids in my school are interested in agri-business, but we have no schooling. Many feel the same way as I do towards farming, but without schooling it is hard for us. The next town over has a vocational agriculture program/FFA, but my high school will NOT let me take it. My school counseler even said "Why would you want to farm? there is no money in it and your life is harder!" I said that would be my problem. The local farm beareu man informed me I can take junior college classes but that is all I can take. Many farmers have gotten to their golden years, time to retire for many. The problem with that is no teens have any ideas towards farming, so our beloved land turns into another development, it is sad! But no action can be taken if we don't have training. Please give me your input, I want to know what my fellow teenagers and adults think of the subject. I want to farm badly, but without and help, it will be hard to get a start.
