i drive a semi also an i haul tractors all over the midwest on my duelly pickup an trailer. this is what i do. if they say a weight on the scale entrace, such as over 6000 lds, i weigh, if its say commercial vehicles i dont. just make sure you have the right tonage for the total vechile weight on your registration. an have high enough rating tires on your unit. i have never even been looked at twice. now this is important. remember this is a hobby, dont care if it isnt, you tell them it just your hobby. if you are doin it as a busy then you have to conform to all the DOT regulations that the big trucks have to conform to such as registration in other states an such. make sure you check with you insurance company also to make sure they are goni to cover your trailer on your pickups insurance, mine said that i had to have its own insurance, an then check to make sure that it will cover the units on the trailer. i put cargo insurance on mine. the biggest thing to do if you ever get pulled into the scale, is to act stupid. i am good at that. make sure you have the units on the trailer properly secured, that is what they are goin to look at first. an the lights if they look at all. you need to have the vehecle secured in all four directions. or 2 chains running four different ways. we have had the DOT come to our club meetings several times to give talks. if you have any other questions feel free to email me an i will get back to you. if you leave your phone number i can talk to you live if you want. johndeeregene
