Modern as in "compacts"?? OR, modern as in "utility"?? Todays compacts are very small cubic inch for their hp, so they don't produce the torque like your M, but the bigger engines of the utilities do have the torque to compete. Their bigger fly wheels really help. I'd put my 40hp Agco up against any M of the same hp on a pto dyno, but the bigger wheels and gearing of the M would probably out pull it for dead weight draw bar hp. M's are balanced just right with their big wheels and tires to really pull well at the draw bar and this leads to owners thinking they have more hp than they really have. Robert
