Ether is quit common to use on hard starting diesels. Not common to use on gas burners. Your earlier distillate burner can burn gas and is more common with the gas burning engine family than it is with the more modern diesel engine. I would go really light on the ether if it was me, and only temporarily. I wouldn't go rigging up a deal to be using it long term everytime you start it. I know someone who blew the head off of there gas engine using ether. Don't know if it was becuase it was a gasoline engine or if the person simply used to much. But that is a true story which ever the reason was.
