If he's giving you the stub shaft that fits on the 1000 shaft and has the 540 splines on the other end, then you need to run your engine about half speed to get the right pto speed. Not the handiest, but it does work for some apps like baling- just have to shift to a higher gear for proper ground speed. For high power jobs like chopping silage, etc., not a good idea. If you're not stuck on a Case, consider a different brand with the two shafts or interchangeable ones. JDs interchange in a matter of seconds.
