I must argue a bit with steves post about converting back to positive ground. A generator WILL charge either pos or neg ground with no modification. All you need to do is polorize the generator after doing the switch to pos ground,but before starting the tractor. polorizing the generator will change the residual magnetism in the field shoes and cause the generator polarity to change from neg ground to pos ground. If the tractor has an alternator,then you need to replace or modify it to get it to charge a pos ground system. As stated you need to change polarity of the coil,amp guage, and some types of electric guages. As steve states, a starter with field coils will work fine and turn the right direction with either pos or neg ground.
