Sometimes I think if you ever disturb these things you never get them back correctly adjusted. Fact that it moves on its own either rt. or left suggest control valve out of adjustment. Loosen the 4 bolts on the steering shaft housing and try adjusting it forward or back. Use a partner to try the wheel while you bump the assembly a LITTLE with a hammer. This assembly is very position sensitive. Proper action depends on it being clean. If simple adjusting won't work, I might take it off and try flushing it with mineral spirits. If that helps you'll want to drain and flush the system. I use ATF as a working fluid.
