A great, cold temperature 'pour rate' really helps regarding the cranking speed of the starter or less starter cranking load equals higher starter RPM. Another plus is perhaps better adhering to the worn cylinder walls & pistons for higher cranking compression on the cylinder. Both combined would help starting a cold diesel engine with less than great cylinder pressure. A diesel uses ultra high compression to create heat to ignite the diesel fuel. A glowplug helps vaporize the diesel fuel as well. However, the engine ware protection is another story, especially so in a diesel.
