I am the owner of a 640 ford and a 861 ford so I have some experience with the tractors.A sure way to tell if it has live PTO is turn the PTO on, push down the cluch and turn the engine over.Let the clutch out 1/2 to 3/4 of the way if the PTO shaft turns it is live PTO if it does not turn till the clutch is all the way out it is not live PTO.Just as a comment the 1955 Ford 641 I own is the best tractor I have ever owened, Before I put over-sized tires on my 861 the 641 could out pull or out work it any day using half the gas of the 861.The 861 puts out 9 more h.p. but the the 641 pulls 3 bt plow just as good any time.
