It's great to see and read about those low hour tractors, but they are not always the blessings they seem to be. Some can be like the proverbial little old lady's car that was only driven to church on Sundays, which turns out to be a big headache because Granny never drove it enough to warm it up and keep the cobwebs out of it. They might not have ever been worked hard enough to be properly broken in, and there can also be other problems. Case in point - one of our customers bought an extremely low-houred Deere 4840 about 6 years ago or so. It only had 900 hours and had been stored in a dry shed. The problem was that many of the hoses, belts and seals were dried rotted, and it had numerous leaks from plain lack of use. They paid dearly for it, and it took a fairly substantial amount of money to get that "like new" tractor back into operating condition, and then it needed an engine overhaul at about 3500 hours last year, because it was burning oil, which shouldn't happen on any 4840 with that kind of hours. Give me a well-used and well-maintained tractor over a low-houred shop queen any day of the week. They're usually cheaper any way you want to slice it.

My dad dreamed that some day he would have his own tractor with every implement he could get. When he rea
