Having had experience with those couplers,Id say you dont have them lined up exactly right.Those things have to be perfect.Might i sugest a rubber coupler.I cant think of what they are called technically but they attach to each shaft and then the rubber,which looks like a small tire,is attached to the two ends with plates and bolts.Theyll work better if room isnt an issue.The ones we have at work are on two 1/2" shafts and the "tire" is about 3" in diameter.Have been using those for several yrs now with no problems.BTW,what we use them on is a mixer,the gear box sit horizontally and the mixer shaft is at about a 30 degree angle.
