I just overpaid a dealer for a Farmall 300 here in Idaho. It had new tires, a working TA, 99% good sheetmetal and hydraulics, started and ran good. After selling the farm, we just wanted something to run a small baler, hay rake, and a little plowing on the 6 acres we have left. Never went red before and probably won't again. Tractor runs perfect in all gears. TA appears solid. PTO works fine when you engage it. However, when you load it (we borrowed a 5' rototiller) it sounds like the transmission is going to self destruct (but not until pressure is put on it). We didn't run it very long, but it is making banging noises in the transmission like a bearing is out. We tried a NH 315 baler after that and again it ran fine until we tried putting some loose hay through it. We are going to talk to a few repair places before going back to the dealer, but it was an as-is sale (SOL!)! Any thought on what this could be..bad, really bad..common?. Remember, this our first trip to "Red" after 3 generations of "Green"!

Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
