When I started lookin for an 8N 2 years ago, I was surprised by the number of 2N,s and 9N,s that were painted to look like 8N,s. I had done a little research on this board, so had some idea on what to look for. Even then I did get suckered into putting $500.00 down on an 8N, which was actually a 9N. Stopped payment on the check. Too bad there's so many dishonest people trying this scam on Newbies like myself. Finally bought a Fergie TO-20 which I'm happy with. Good luck in your search - be patient.
