Environmental charges, and fuel sur-charges. Just another way of business's making up for the increased cost of doing business these days. When I take a load of soybeans in to the elevator, I can't hit them with a fuel sur-charge, or an environmental charge to get rid of the oil and old filters from my tractor and combine. I recently had my pick-up in the body shop. When I got it back, the bill had an itemized list of charges to dispose of thinner and solvents, the masking tape and paper, and cleaning up the paint gun. That is CRAZY. Shouldn't that be included in the charge for painting a fender? With perception being greater than reality, why would a business list this kind of charge? Just write it in with the labor, or part that you are buying, so as not to infuriate the customer. JMHO Oh, by the way, reading this message will cost you $.50. (Electrical sur-charge to pay for having my computer on.)
