If what you mean by hard starting is thta the starter turns slow,( I assume that since you changed it)you need to check all your connections from the switch to the starter.If it just plain out wont start good the previous poist is a good place to start.advanceing or retarding the spark wont help unless it is already out of wack to start with.Let us know how it turns out.
