The only reason I have ever heard of for twisting the belt is to reverse direction. The Mobious Ring (Strip) would use a twist in one side of the loop the belt makes between the pulleys which would not reverse direction but would put each face of the belt against the pulleys but at the cost of bending the belt in opposite directions each time around. I not sure which is harder on the belt, I think I would take the wear on one side over bending the belt back and forth. I don't think you could keep a flat belt on two flat pulleys. One must be beveled, usually the drive pulley, it may not be obvious but it's there. My $.02 Lee
