One of my old tractor books has an account of Raymond Johnson, a man who used to race a Jumbo Simpson at County Fairs and usually averaged over sixty mph to win. It also tells of him getting stopped by a Nebraska Highway Patrol for exceeding 70 mph. Jumbos used a Chrysler industial engine, 5 speed Dodge truck transmission and a 2 ton Dodge truck rearend. Johnson reportedly replaced his tranny with a 10 speed Dodge truck trans with overdrive. I'll bet that was a scary ride on a tricycle rowcrop tractor.
