The thing that jumps out at me in your post is 1/2 acre. It does not take a lot of horse power or size to mow that much grass. Looks like you are buying capability based on the possibility of doing some Sunday farming. I did the same thing with the added anticipation of getting some use out of it at our country acreage. Went for the horse power. From the standpoint of mower capacity I got 2" of additional width in my tractor over a riding mower and paid $1,000 for it. The first (and only) implement I got was a dozer blade. The tractor would not push it very well and the controls were hard to work (manual lift). Got wheel weights. Helped. Got chains. Did not help much. Got an 18 inch section of rail road track and bolted it on. Rear end stays down now but the dozer blade is still useless. Built a yard trailer. That was useful! Could have pulled it around my yard, however, with less horse power.

What I have is a bruser of a lawn mower and not much more.

For my country place I eventually purchased a real tractor.

My message. Be realistic about your needs and buy accordingly. You can rent a tiller once a year when that farming urge hits you.

Reguardless of brand, keep your machine inside, change the oil and all filters regularly, don't let the gas go stale, and exercise it every now and then in the off season.
