i would check the injection pump timing,also if it rns rough in high range get the injectors checked or head gasket keep it wound up while working the engine 1500 or higher diesels do not like to be lugged also let it idle 3-5 mins b4 shutdown
the owners manuals for get that important step ofdiesel engine life KEEP THE STARTING FLUID AWAY FROM IT it should start without any either i got a 2600 ford dsl it wll start fine at 12 below
