Ron, they make a self exciting regulator for those type of Delco alts. It has no wires to hook up, all you have is the lug on the back of the alt connects it to the battery. When the engine reaches a certain RPM, about 1200 the alt starts charging and does so till you stop the engine. They work slick and no need to find certain wires and switch hookups.
