I now have 60 vintage Fords, 2000D 3000D and 4000.
The 3000 is the only one with a dual range transmission so I get 8 speeds out of 4 gears. It has live PTO and has enough weight to be a force with which to recon. It is a real tugger and sips diesel. I had to overhaul it (not it's fault) and since it is the perfect all around tractor.

Low range 1st is pretty slow and should run a 5 to 6' tiller quite well. The 4 speeds are too fast even though the other tractors are great workers
too.

The Massey Ferguson 35 Deluxe is nice with 2 x 4 also but mine was gas. Don't know if you can get it in Diesel.

For a tractor that small, diesel is no big deal. Diesel is your friend when you want to do serious work and make a living i.e. plow a couple hundred acres or so and want fuel efficiency. When they work, they are less fussy than gas but when they break, they like the $$$$$.

One last thing. I attempted to buy a tiller one time and the guy in the back (not salesman) said not to buy one without gauge wheels to controll tillage depth.
