While I don't consider the 3208 the best diesel ever made, why do you call it a "throw away engine"? They are just as rebuildable as a lot of other diesels. They are not a sleeved engine, but can be bored out and sleeved back to standard. Even the "famous" Cummins 5.9 is a parent-bore engine, and has to be bored and/or sleeved if wear or damage happens to one or more cylinders. I have 3208's in tandem farm trucks, and have had good service from them. I have never owned a 4-150, but 2 of my neighbors did, for many years. They run them a little below rated speed, and didn't pull their guts out, and had pretty good luck with them. For their day, they had fairly quiet cabs.
