A friend of mine had a Chev short bed with a 5th wheel set-up... had zero problems with it! I have the Reese 20K# 5th wheel set up... the rails stick up from the floor of the bed about 3/4" ... I bought a rubber mat and cut it to fit between the rails so now the floor of my truck bed is level and protected by thick rubber matting... no problems, and the bed is not in any way restricted. My horse trailer is a gooseneck, I bought the Reese G/N plate (rated @ 25K#)that clips into the same rails at the 5th wheel hitch. It's a GREAT system... I've been using it for over 4 years and have had no problems! It's strong!!! Our "camper" is 37' long & weighs 14K# loaded! I've had that much & more on the horse trailer... pull with an F550!
