You could try that #1 plug in another hole, or just renew it, to see if it is the plug causing the deposit. Or you could do a compression check to see if #1 is down and giving the problem. Does it do this at light load, or when hard at work? Is it running hot enough? Is it missing at all? Could be the plug, lead or distributor cap. Are connections tight? Is it oil fouling on the plug, or just a light sooty deposit? Would give an idea of the fault. Could (remote, but...) be a worn cam lobe not lifting the valve enough to run OK. Just a few thoughts for you to go at. I am sure, with a bit of checking, you will either find the fault or at least be able give us a bit more of a specific problem to diagnose. Let us know how what you find. Regards, RAB
