We own both a M gas and a 77 diesel. Both are very good tractors. The M has a little more power (an 88 would be more comparable)and a faster road gear than the 77 but thats about where the M's advantages end. The Oliver 77 has a 6 speed transmission, 6 cylinder engine, live pto, (a must for bailing)live hydraulics, and a 12 volt electrical system. The 77 just seems like a much more advanced tractor.
