I see you are struggling with this. :) You seem to have a real good list there, and it seems you know already what you want. Don't get hung up on a color, or worrying about what you shoulda coulda aughta have bought. I would look at what is (was) popular in your area. Getting parts & knowledge on how & what to fix will be a lot easier if you are one of 100 people owning that kind of tractor, vs being one of 2 people who own that color. Shop on price. If you make a good deal, even if you hate the tractor - or it doesn't do what you want - you can sell it again next year for about what you paid for it. The neat thing of a well-used tractor. They hold their value if you bought smart. All of the tractors you mentioned in your messages below will be a fine general purpose machine. That is exactly what they were built for - a little bit of everything. One color or model might have some nicer features for plowing, another will have better features for mowing. And so on. Just pick one you like, and be happy with it. It won't be totally perfect for everything - but any of those models you have listed before will do what you want, and do it pretty darn well. I'd sure want a live pto for baling hay. It can be mierable baling without it. IMHO, you will really limit yourself without hydraulics & 3pt. how will you cut the hay????? You either need hyd or a 3pt to raise & lower the sickle mower. Or find a rather rare lever operated bar. No haybine or moco without hydraulics. Same with a disk, can't use a wheel disk, those trailing models you adjust with a lever/ rope are hard to find & do not travel well. Now, it can be done. Buy why make life hard? :) --->Paul

Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
