I have a 2003 Chevy 2500HD regular cab with duramax diesel and the six speed. I have 15000 miles on it. Last week I was pulling loaded 14000 lb, fertilizer spreaders with it and I averaged 18 MPG. On the highway empty I average 22 MPG. I believe it will out pull the gasser any day. I look at it like comparing a gas tractor with a diesel one, you would not want to own a 300 hp gas powered 4x4 tractor! Granted the diesel engine costs more but with the milage and diesel fuel averaging 15 to 20 cents less in my area it will pay for it self. also they have been retaining their value at trade in time. With these new diesels they have finally got them right and they in no way compare to the old troublesome 6.2s.
