Ford 2000 problems

My father has a Ford 2000 gas circa 1967 that only has 587 hours on it. Recently he had someone do work on it and now it will crank and run for a couple of minutes, then die. Fuel is getting to the sediment bowl, but I'm not sure whether the carb is getting it's share. The battery is a problem too, in that it will crank first thing in the morning, but not later. Generator output is good. So what should I do to run the problem down? Daddy's 80 and I'd like to help.
