The lead did help to lubricate the valve & valve seat, esp. the ehaust ones, which get pretty warm & hammer together several times over the years. Current wisdom is that you can spend $500 in additives before doing a valve job, or not bother with additives and do a valve job when needed, and then put in hardened valve seats. You'll spend the same money either way. So mostly don't bother with the additives, just save your money for the valve job, which gas engines need every few thousand hours anyhow.... --->Paul
