Just answered a post on this last week. Info is verifiable on this site. White cold engine Blue crankcase oil Black rich mixture (unburned diesel) I have 2 Fords with identical instrument panels. The first one acquired ran on the left of midrange with a 160 thermostat. The second one ran at the edge of HOT. I removed the thermostat (on #2) and took it in the house and put it on the stove with a candy thermometer and it started opening at 160 like the marking on it said it should. I still didn't trust it. Bought another thermostat. Temp gauge read as before. Erroneous reading gauge!!! Conclusion: Just because your instruments are telling you that the engine is below 200 you may be WAY below 200. Pull your thermostat out and check it and check the temp. If it says and is 160 you may want to go to a 180. Used to run a rock bucket (dump truck 800 cid 400 hp Cummins 6 cyl turbo). On cold mornings white smoke came out of the stack until I got the engine warm (down the highway 10 miles or so). Then it was gone. Never had a problem in the summer. Tell you anything? Mark

The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
