You can tow as far as you want if you go slow and keep the wheels greased. I towed a 12 ft drop spreader with bushings for 75 miles. I did not go over 20 miles/hr and stopped to grease every 15 miles. Just takes a lot of time. Remember you are taking a chance if you go on the interstate, that is it would be an immediate ticket if you are caught. If I had only a short distance I might take the chance. It just depends on the location (amount of traffic)and if you are feeling particularly lucky. Make sure the tires are ok. Myself, I would probably trailer it, unless I had plenty of time and wanted to see the country side. Also avoid real hot days. I would not tow above 85 degrees F and that may be pushing it, for long distances.
