marlowe: Years ago an old farmer who farmed along the border, told me they all go across the border for a wife, (both sides) this keeps everyone with duel citizenship. That alone makes life a whole lot simpler for them. I once talked with a lady who told me her parents farm home was situated right on the border. Front door was on one side while back door on the other. They were treated as Canadians under the law, however a good portion of the farmland was in the US. You must also remember I am speaking of 40 years ago when many of the rural side road crossings were not even staffed at night. This whole situation is probably quite different today. I'll bet that farm house has been torn down, and many of those side roads are gone.
