I have a 1996 Chevy Silverado half ton, and I like it, but the darn wipers give me problems, I often have to bang on the back of the steering columb by the 4ways switch to get them to work, and they'll sometimes quit and I'll have to fool with them, I suspect it's just a loose connection, but I heard theres a recall on the wiper switch, so I want to call GM on that. Next, is my backup lights don't work all the time, once again, probably a loose connection. I need to call GM and see if I can get those fixed. My truck has low miles and to date only has 69,000 miles, I didn't buy it new and the guy who had it before me meticuliously maintained it, and he had some stuff fixed under warranty, including the 4wd actuator, and the catalyttic converter, which he said fell apart, and GM called it poor workmanship and replaced. Next my plastic "Protecta" bedliner broke on both sides, I know I've had some heavy stuff (nother over a ton though) in there, but I'd never seen a broken bedliner. I have also had problems with my clutch reservoir going dry over a period of time (quickly learned to check it every time I open the hood), and it's a downright scary thing when you go to stop and the truck keeps on going. If I had to buy another truck, I'd prolly end up with either another Chevy or a Ford Superduty.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
