Clearing woods for field or garden

I'm clearing some woods near the home for a future field or garden area. Once all the stumps are pulled & the boulders popped or buried...what's the best way to next prep the soil for planting a field? I have tons of sink holes & surface roots now. I have a loader/backhoe on AC D-14 & also a Fordson Major Diesel. I don't have any implements yet...what do I need? This is all new to me. Thanks in advance.
