Why wouldn't some one fix it

Just traded for a tractor that had a busted up loader on it. The guy said it was that way when he got it and he didn't fix it. I also guess who he got it from didn't either. So why would some one do that instead of fixing it. Just gets my goat when I see something looking that bad. Well when I get it back on it will be in good shape again but boy it sure is takeing a lot of work fixing it. Most of had at least 25 cracks in the thing.
