It's a common behavior for all people. As a former Fleet Manager (and farm boy) I saw it all the time. People do what's important to them as individuals. Some farmers (and fleets) clean, repair and service their equipment - some take the attitude "just fix it enough to get it through harvest" however it never gets properly repaired at slack times. I've had people ask "how often should I check the oil/coolant/etc. in the tractor during harvest" when I told them check it daily or put a fluid level gauge on it they were resistant - too much time & trouble. Same attitude toward preventative maintenance. "Why should I replace the fuel filter at the (scheduled) hours? - there's not that much dirt in it." Well, how much down time & loss of crop can you stand when the fuel filter packs up at the height of harvest because you ran it twice or three times as long as recommended?
Anyway enough ranting for today - thanks for listening.
