Most bush hogs are designed for 540 RPM PTO. PTO standards are either 540 or 1000, so you should notice a BIG difference in PTO speed if those are the choices you have. Run engine at rated RPM to get rated PTO RPM, pick a gear that give you a ground speed appropriate to the type of cutting you're doing.
